Hamburg prepares for fairground fun

The German city of Hamburg is gearing up for one of the most exciting events in its calendar - the spring edition of the Dom market, one of the largest fairs in the country.

Taking place between March 23rd and April 22nd, the fair promises plenty of attractions for British holidaymakers and is designed to cater for both children and adults.

Attracting over 2.8 million visitors each time it is held, the Dom takes place at the Heiligengeistfeld fairground and promises all the fun of the fair, from sweet treats to the latest rides.

Famously, the streets of the fairground, which are lined with stalls and rides on both sides, are 3.3 km long, enough to keep visitors busy for quite some time. Families who visit on Wednesdays can enjoy the added bonus of reduced price tickets and one ride that comes highly recommended is the Ferris wheel, which provides views over the whole of Hamburg.

Aside from the fair, there is plenty more to see in Germany's second-largest city, including the St Pauli entertainment district and the impressive Michaelis Church, with a wide range of high quality Hamburg hotels available to choose from.
